Getting to Glasgow

Glasgow is well connected on the national level via Glasgow Central station.

International visitors can reach Glasgow via multiple airports:

The closed option is the Glasgow Airport Express (Service 500) to the city centre, followed by a subway journey to Hillhead Station. A taxi from Glasgow Airport to the University typically takes 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Arriving from Edinburgh Airport: There is a direct Glasgow AirLink Bus that takes about 1 hour from the airport and takes you directly to Glasgow City Centre. From here it is a short subway journey to Hillhead station.

Arriving from Prestwick Airport: Prestwick Airport is a smaller airport used by RyanAir and there is a direct train connection to Glasgow city centre.

Glasgow is serviced by a bus network and also a Subway, which enables easy access to the University and West End from the City Centre. The subway only goes in a circle in two directions and the closest station to the Conference Venue is Hillhead Station on Byres Road (5 minute walk to the venue).

Electricity
The United Kingdom uses Type G electrical plugs with a standard voltage of 230V and frequency of 50Hz. International visitors may require a travel adapter.

VISA requirements:

If you are a non-EU citizen, you will have to apply for a standard VISA.

However, the UK has also recently introduced new entry requirements for EU citizens. You might need to apply for a so-called ETA, which is a quick process and is in most cases automatically granted. But I wouldn’t leave it to the last minute.

You can find all requirements here: https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control/before-you-leave-for-the-uk
